Robin Hood is dead!

In the dark years since the death of Robin Hood, the former Prince John has proven himself one of the worst kings that England will ever know. Struggling under the burden of heavy taxes and royal whim, the people speak more and more of days past, when a brave yeoman rose from among them to stand against those who abused power and privilege. Furious that his enemy is remembered still, and fearful of what his example might inspire, King John orders a campaign to extinguish the memory of the Sherwood archer. The first step–to execute the surviving members of Robin’s band!

Now the only hope for the aging outlaws, and for England itself, lies in the shadows of Sherwood Forest, where Robin’s legacy of rebellion is reborn in a startling new form…

…his daughter, Robyn!

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

ROBYN OF SHERWOODTM was originally published as four 22-page comic books by Caliber Comics, beginning in 1998. It was well-received at the time, even earning Paul D. Storrie the Don Thompson Award for Favorite New Talent, but was plagued by numerous hurdles. The most difficult of these was original series artist Michael Larson injuring his drawing hand as he wrapped issue two. Those hurdles led to our having, in the course of four issues, four penciller/inker teams, three letters, and two editors. Despite the best efforts of all involved, the story was definitely not of a piece visually.

So when Caliber publisher Gary Reed graciously signed Caliber’s share of the rights back to Michael, Rob, and I (Michael and I as series creators and Rob, a longtime friend of mine, having contributed to the creative process even before coming on as the final artist) several years back, we decided that we wanted to smooth out the variations in artistic styles before issuing a collection (and do a bit of story editing in the process). Unfortunately, all of us were busy with other projects as well, so progress on ROBYN OF SHERWOODTM was slow.

Now that’s it has all come together, we’re proud to present the “remastered edition” of the very first ROBYN OF SHERWOODTM story. Rob deserves special recognition for doing so much of the heavy lifting on this edition.

We’re all very happy with the way this edition has turned out and hope that readers new and old will enjoy having this story in a single volume.

Special thanks to original series contributors: Inkers P.A. Dery and Thom Zahler (whose lettering skills grace this edition), Artist Glen Szoloski, Letterers Brent Carpenter and Chet Jaques, Editors Joe Martin and James Pruett, and Publisher Gary Reed.
